TechSoup Partners with Mailshell
to Protect Nonprofits from Email Spam
Donations of Acclaimed Anti-Spam Software Now Available
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - August 11, 2003 - TechSoup.org,
(www.techsoup.org), the technology website for the nonprofit
sector, today announced its partnership with Mailshell (www.mailshell.com),
creator of the SpamCatcher anti-spam engine, to provide
the nonprofit community with donations of these award-winning
products.
Billions of unwanted commercial e-mails are
sent each day. Spam not only constitutes a nuisance for
businesses and nonprofits alike, it causes a significant
loss of time and computer power. The cost of spam has been
estimated at $10 billion in the United States this year
alone. (Ferris Research, 2003).
To relieve nonprofits from this email intrusion,
Mailshell has donated elements of its enterprise suite,
including both a desktop and a server version of its software,
to TechSoup. All of Mailshell's products are based on its
core SpamCatcher engine, which is also available to OEM
customers as a software developers' toolkit.
In addition to protecting individual computers,
this donation puts high-end enterprise software in the hands
of nonprofits that otherwise could not afford such an acclaimed
product.
Both solutions are available through DiscounTech
(www.techsoup.org/discountech), TechSoup's product philanthropy
service, for a small administrative fee. Customer support
for both products will be provided by TechSoup's customer
service team. The total retail value of the donation exceeds
one million dollars in the first year.
"This donation offers nonprofits access to
the same advanced spam-filtering engine that's deployed
at large enterprises, universities and government institutions,"
said Tonny Yu, president of Mailshell. "Mailshell is honored
to stand alongside companies like Symantec, Microsoft and
Cisco in support of CompuMentor's TechSoup."
Rebecca Masisak, Director and General Manager
of DiscounTech, added: "Nonprofits are always strapped for
time and money. Having to deal with spam is an incredible
waste of their scarce resources. We commend Mailshell for
donating their top-notch products to the nonprofit community
and helping our clients protect their productivity in these
tough times."
