Mailshell Releases a Low Memory
Version of Its Award-Winning Anti-Spam Toolkit
Minimal Memory Required For Consistently High Spam Filtering
Accuracy
LINUX WORLD, SAN FRANCISCO - August 3, 2004
- Mailshell, the OEM anti-spam leader, today introduced
a new Linux-based low-memory version of its enterprise-grade
spam-filtering engine, which can be embedded almost anywhere.
More than 4,000 companies and 10 million consumers already
rely on 'Powered by Mailshell' products to block spam.
Companies have been eager to embed anti-spam
into their existing low-memory products either to generate
new incremental subscription-based revenue or simply to
remain competitive. Mailshell's new SDK Lite requires less
than 200KB of code on the device, and can be embedded into
any product including mobile devices, wireless access points,
desktop routers, firewalls, modems, and other low memory
devices.
"The SDK Lite serves OEMs who had wanted the
accuracy of the Mailshell SDK but could not afford the memory
requirements," said Tonny Yu, president and CEO of Mailshell.
"Initial trials among OEM prospects already indicate that
it's a unique and compelling solution."
The SDK Lite translates incoming messages
into a complex set of spam tags, which accurately identifies
the spam attributes of the message. This engine transmits
the spam tags to one of Mailshell's worldwide data centers
where it is compared against millions of spam tags in Mailshell's
databases. The SDK Lite then returns a 'spam score', the
probability between 0% and 100% that the message is spam.
Customers set a 'spam score' threshold, above which messages
will be considered spam.
"Despite the popularity of spam filtering
ASPs, many CIOs still don't want their mission-critical
email routed to a third party," said Tonny Yu. "The SDK
Lite allows email to remain within the company's network
but have the spam accurately filtered out with minimal setup
and maintenance."
The SDK Lite boasts the same award-winning
accuracy as the flagship Mailshell SDK. The primary differences
between the two are memory size and speed. The flagship
SDK is more than five times faster than the SDK Lite, though
requires a much larger memory footprint. The SDK Lite is
currently available on Linux with other platforms available
soon. Mailshell's flagship SDK is available in a range of
operating systems including Linux, Windows, Solaris (Sparc
and Intel), FreeBSD, HP-UX, AIX and Mac OS X.
