"Stop Spam Today!" Campaign
for Nonprofits Launches Today
Free Anti-Spam Software Available On 12/15/04
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, November 9, 2004 - TechSoup.org
and Mailshell today announced the second annual "Stop Spam
Today!" Campaign (www.stopspamtoday.org), a nationwide effort
to help nonprofits fight spam by providing free, essential
information, resources and tools. The campaign culminates
on December 15 with a one-day giveaway in which nonprofits
can visit www.stopspamtoday.org to order free licenses of
Mailshell's Anti-Spam Desktop software.
Qualified U.S. nonprofits and Canadian charitable
organizations that are registered with TechSoup Stock are
eligible for the give-away. Organizations who are not already
registered are strongly encouraged to pre-register at TechSoup
Stock (www.techsoup.org/stock) before December 15. There
is no cost to register or participate in the program. Pre-registration
will start the qualification process and will expedite order
processing and delivery. On December 15, all registered
organizations need to place their software order through
www.stopspamtoday.org.
More than 75,000 copies of free anti-spam
software were distributed at last year's "Stop Spam Today!"
event. With up to 75% of all email considered to be spam
today, TechSoup and Mailshell expect the numbers to dramatically
increase this year.
Lynn Stott, director of TechSoup.org, said,
"TechSoup is all about making it easy for nonprofits to
find technology know-how and tools to get the job done.
Last year's very successful 'Stop Spam Today' event made
evident that nonprofits do need support on many levels to
fight spam. This year, we offer nonprofits information on
all crucial spam- related topics. We hope that many organizations
will join our campaign and learn how to best protect their
inboxes."
"In the last year we've seen new, more devious
and more dangerous types of spam than ever before," added
Eytan Urbas, vice president of Mailshell. "Nonprofits suffer
from spam just as much as the corporate sector. But many
nonprofit are not able to purchase the newest and most advanced
software solutions, so we're delighted to provide them with
a much-needed holiday gift."
The month-long educational component of the
2004 "Stop Spam Today!" Campaign strives to help nonprofits
defend themselves against spam-borne threats. Every week
from November 9 until December 15, 2004, TechSoup.org will
address a crucial spam-related topic and provide nonprofits
with new, educational content highlighted on a special page
devoted to spam. In addition, nonprofits will be able to
share their spam questions and solutions in TechSoup.org
discussion forums. On December 15, 2004, nonprofits can
request the free software licensing at www.stopspamtoday.org.
From November 29 to December 3, a special
TechSoup.org online event led by Dr. Bill Pease of GetActive
will focus on helping nonprofits ensure their outgoing communications
do not get classified as spam.
