Third Annual "Stop Spam
Today!" Campaign to Aid Over 100,000 Nonprofits
Free Anti-Spam Software Available on 12/14 and 12/15/05
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - November 21, 2005 - TechSoup
and Mailshell today announced the third annual "Stop Spam
Today!" Campaign (www.stopspamtoday.org), a nationwide effort
to help nonprofits and public libraries fight spam by providing
free information, resources, and tools. The campaign culminates
on December 14 and 15 with a 48-hour giveaway in which nonprofits
and libraries can visit www.stopspamtoday.org to order free
copies of Mailshell's Anti-Spam Desktop software. More than
100,000 copies of free anti-spam software were distributed
during last year's "Stop Spam Today!" event, an increase
of 33% over the 2003 campaign, and TechSoup expects even
greater participation this year.
Qualified public libraries, U.S. nonprofits
and Canadian charitable organizations that are registered
with TechSoup Stock are eligible for the give-away. Organizations
that are not already registered are strongly encouraged
to pre-register at TechSoup Stock (www.techsoup.org/stock)
before December 14, 2005. There is no cost to register or
to participate in the program. Pre-registration will start
the qualification process and will expedite order processing
and delivery. On December 14 and 15, all registered organizations
need to place their software order within 48 hours through
www.stopspamtoday.org.
"In the recent years, nonprofits have become
more knowledgeable about spam and computer security," said
Rebecca Masisak, General Manager and Vice President of TechSoup
Stock. "However, spammers are always at least one step ahead.
And because of that, it remains vital to nonprofits to protect
themselves against this continuous threat."
The month-long educational component of the
2005 "Stop Spam Today!" Campaign strives to help nonprofits
and public libraries defend themselves against email-borne
security threats including identity theft, fraud, phishing,
and spam. Every week from November 8 until December 15,
2005, TechSoup will address a crucial spam-related topic
and provide nonprofits with educational content highlighted
on a special page devoted to spam. In addition, nonprofits
will be able to share their email security-related questions
and solutions in TechSoup discussion forums. For just 48
hours, on December 14 and 15, 2005, nonprofits can request
the free software at www.stopspamtoday.org.
