ICSA Labs Premier Services
Collaborates with Mailshell to Establish Testing and Certification
Program for Spam Filtering Solutions
SANTA CLARA, CA - December 8, 2005 - Mailshell,
the OEM anti-spam and anti-phishing leader, and ICSA Labs
will collaborate in the creation of ICSA Labs' new spam
filtering evaluation testing and certification program.
Mailshell along with the ICSA Labs Premier Services Group
have begun co-development of the testing protocols and methodology
which is targeted to officially launch in early 2006. Once
launched, the program will be administered and managed by
ICSA Labs.
"Our research indicates a significant need
in the marketplace, both among IT professionals and security
vendors, for standardized spam filtering testing," said
George Japak, vice president of ICSA Labs. "Mailshell's
lab-focused approach, combined with real-world expertise
via its top-tier OEM partners, makes it an ideal relationship
for us."
ICSA Labs evaluation testing and certification
assures the user community that certified products, including
anti-virus, SSL-TLS VPN, IPSec VPN, firewall, and wireless
vendors, underwent the industry's most stringent testing
and meet industry-accepted product security standards worldwide.
Via its global network of OEM partners, more than 6,000
companies and 10 million consumers rely on Powered by Mailshell'
spam filters.
"The lack of standards and certification
among vendors make the spam filtering market a town without
a sheriff," said Tonny Yu, CEO of Mailshell. "The daily
mutations in spam and phishing combined with inconsistent
testing standards and some vendors' exaggerated marketing
claims make it very hard for IT managers to get reliable
data. We believe that ICSA Labs is the best, most qualified
party to help bring order to the confusion."
Security and end user communities have relied
on ICSA Labs for more than 15 years to provide credible
testing results on security products and solutions. The
new relationship further verifies that the standards set
by ICSA Labs for certifying information security products,
and the security consortia that it sponsors for information
security intelligence sharing and gathering, incorporate
the highest standards for reliable, independent data and
verification.
